Child Inclusive Mediation
When their parents separate, children can have many questions about what is happening and how they feel about it. Often it really helps to talk to a neutral person and particularly one who is helping their parents navigate their separation.
Child Inclusive Mediation is where a specially trained mediator (Christine Plews) will see the children in a separate private and confidential session to discuss their viewpoint. This feedback can be shared with the parents if the children agree and can be very helpful for parents when making choices over the arrangements following their separation. Rather than guessing what the children would like and how they are feeling, or disagreeing over what they would like, the mediator will have spoken to the children directly.
It has been shown that offering the children a voice in these situations can be very beneficial to their well-being. It is not intended to involve the children in the decision making which, at all times, remains with the parents but rather to make them involved and play a part in the decision making.
