Mediation for Pet Custody

Pets are really important members of a family and the decisions about how to care for them following a divorce or separation can be emotional and difficult.

There may be decisions about ongoing ownership to decide but more usual are the decisions around shared care and how these loved members of the family can continue to be cared for and seen by everyone. This can be especially important for the children of the family, who often do not like to be away from their pet for long periods of time and like to see both parents continuing to enjoy what is essentially an impartial and neutral member of the family, who makes no emotional demands on anyone.

These decisions can be relatively straightforward for dogs and small pets such as rabbits and hamsters, but cats can be tricky to share and the costs of upkeep, vets bills and insurance also need to be considered, particularly with larger animals like horses.

Our experienced mediators can help with these decisions which often the courts are not well equipped to deal with from an emotional perspective.
